First Semester Abroad Program
Have you ever considered what it would be like to come to England not as a
tourist or a visitor, but as a resident – someone who through everyday
interactions – becomes immersed in all of the beauty, history and culture that
is London? Now you can! For almost 40 years, The Florida State University has
offered a small liberal arts college atmosphere in the heart of London. Small
classes, dedicated teacher-scholars, and engaged peer groups make studying in
London an enormously rewarding experience. With courses designed to maximize the
use of the city as both a classroom and a text, and professors committed to an
imaginative approach to teaching, students spend a great deal of their time
learning by experience in London’s museums, galleries, theatres, and
neighborhoods.
Located in historic Bloomsbury, the London Study Centre is a stone’s throw from
the West End Theatre District and the British Museum, and is within easy walking
distance of such places of interest as Covent Garden, Trafalgar square, the
Houses of Parliament, and Buckingham Palace. The possibilities of a term in
London, like the rewards, are many and varied. Now it is your turn to join the
thousands of Florida state students before you who have lived and studied as
residents of this vibrant city.
Excursions
Fall semester Study Centre excursions include day trips to places such as
Stonehenge, Bath, Oxford, Brighton and Stratford upon Avon, an overnight
excursion to Paris, and an overnight UK-based trip. A Monday-Thursday class
schedule and a 10 day break, provide plenty of opportunities for personal
travel.
Housing
Located in historic Bloomsbury, a stone’s throw from the West End, Theatre
District, and housed in a row of seventeenth-century townhouses, the London
Study Centre combines modern convenience with historic setting. Consisting of
fully self-contained and furnished apartments, the Centre, amongst other
amenities, boasts 24-hour wireless connectivity, two computer labs, a library,
free laundry facilities, and a student lounge. Flats include shared bedrooms,
bathroom with shower, sitting room with TV and well-equipped kitchen. If these
spaces are filled, students will be housed in comparable accommodations within
central London. Overnight guests are not allowed in program housing. For a list

British Studies Minor
The British Studies London Centre Minor enhances and focuses a student’s program
in Britain. The minor is built around the London residency, but can be pursued
before and after it as well: fifteen credits are required, of which nine must be
earned in London. Students may choose from various disciplinary perspectives on
British Studies. Consult the FSU Bulletin (registrar.fsu.edu/bulletin) and
contact International Programs for formal declaration of the minor.
Eligibility
This program is open to all interested students who originally applied to the
Florida State University for fall semester admission but were offered a place in
the following spring semester. Rather than waiting until spring semester to join
Florida State, admission can begin with International Programs during the fall
semester.
