Program Information - Ireland • Galway and England • London

Students participating in this program will have the opportunity to study the Irish experience in two diverse cities, Galway and London. In Galway, program courses take advantage of the many offerings of this lively city. Students use resources at their disposal to study Irish culture, literature, history, and film. There is a wealth of historically significant sites and cultural opportunities, including the internationally acclaimed Galway Arts Festival which occurs while the program is in Galway. Excursions may include trips to such locations as the rugged limestone plateau, the Burren (the ‘stony place’ in Irish), the breath-taking Cliffs of Moher, and the peaceful Aran Islands. While in Galway, students will be based at the National University of Ireland (NUI Galway) where they will live and attend classes at one of Ireland’s foremost centers of academic excellence.

After experiencing the Emerald Isle, like many historic Irish figures before them, students will travel to London where they will study the rich history of Irish immigrants in one of the world’s largest and culturally rich cities. In London, students will learn about the Irish contribution to English literature and culture. Students will also have the opportunity to study the rich heritage of Irish and British theatrical history by attending and studying plays performed on the London stage. Excursions to Stratford upon Avon, Shakespeare’s Globe and the Camden Fringe Festival are included in this diverse program. Lodging will be in The Florida State University’s Study Centre, centrally located and within easy walking distance to such world famous sites as the British Museum, Buckingham Palace, and Trafalgar Square.

Housing
In Galway, students share fully equipped apartments in Corrib Village, a student residence of NUI Galway, on the banks of the River Corrib.  The university has several restaurants for students who do not wish to prepare meals in their kitchens.  The apartments are within walking distance of Galway’s city center.

In London, students stay in shared apartments in Florida State’s London Study Centre or comparable accommodations within central London.  For study center housing specifics, click here.
