There isn’t a city in the world with a richer tradition than London; nor a tradition so richly complimented by a vital contemporary theatre scene. Here you will find the traditional alongside the cutting edge, visit the renowned national companies (the National Theatre, the RSC) and be enthralled by the most exuberant experimental theatre, such as a promenade performance through a long-abandoned underground railway station. The FSU Theatre Academy London (TAL) is designed to help students take advantage of these exceptional resources. As well as seeing plays covering the full range of dramatic performance (many at discounted student rates), the Academy offers classes taught by a distinguished faculty including some of London’s leading theatre artists.
Whether it is Playwriting, Acting, or Design and
Stage Management, students are taught by noted
practitioners from the London theatre community
along with Florida State resident faculty. A special
feature of the Academy is that it offers a uniquely
wide range of courses, encompassing all the
principal theatre arts. In a year-round program,
each semester offers a specific focus.
Eligibility
The Academy is open to all students pursuing
degree programs in Theatre, Music Theatre, Film,
English, Communication and Humanities, and in
exceptional circumstances to others who may
register as special students. Summer Sessions I
and II are open to Juniors and Seniors only.
Housing
Located in historic Bloomsbury, a stone’s throw from the West End
Theatre District and housed in a row of seventeenth-century townhouses,
the London Study Centre combines modern convenience with an historic
setting. Consisting of fully self-contained and furnished apartments, the
Centre, amongst other amenities, boasts 24-hour wireless connectivity, two
computer labs, a library, free laundry facilities, and a student lounge. Flats
include shared bedrooms, bathroom with shower, sitting room with TV and
a well-equipped kitchen. If these spaces are filled, students will be housed
in comparable accommodations within central London.
