Information for Non-FSU Students

Not an FSU Student?  Not a problem!
International Programs accepts applications from students from all colleges and universities. Students from other schools are classified as Transient students. This means they are degree-seeking students elsewhere, but will attend The Florida State University for at least one term. (The Transient student form is provided when the application to study abroad has been acted upon favorably.) Here are some tips and guidelines to assist in studying abroad with Florida State.

Students should meet with academic advisors and/or their Dean’s office to discuss which program, and courses, will best suit their academic and personal needs. Often, course descriptions are needed to make this assessment. Florida State’s General Bulletin lists descriptions for all courses. Begin searching at registrar.fsu.edu/ bulletin/undergrad/depts/. Look under the academic department for each course. Although determination of transferability of credit is seldom denied, students are encouraged to get this approval in writing, prior to their term abroad.

Financial aid
Students who receive financial aid should meet with their financial aid office and discuss plans to study abroad with Florida State. Additional loan monies may be available because the estimated cost of attendance to study abroad is generally higher than studying at the home campus. Most schools require a consortium agreement be signed by the host school (Florida State). Obtain this from the home school and send it to The Florida State University International Programs, A5500 University Center, Tallahassee, FL 32306-2420.We will obtain the necessary signature and return it promptly to the student’s home school. Please read our financial aid procedures: international.fsu.edu/Students/Prospective/College/Financial_Aid.aspx.

Special Scholarship Opportunity
Students from institutions other than Florida State are eligible to apply for the $3,000 Victor Carrabino Scholarship, which is specific to our Florence, Italy fall and/ or spring semesters. For more information and to apply, please go to our scholarship page.
Note: Scholarship availability is subject to funding.

Applications
Apply on-line to the chosen program. In addition, be sure to send an official transcript from the home school to The Florida State International Programs, A5500 University Center, Tallahassee, FL 32306-2420. If students have attended more than one school, the transcript from the most recently attended school will suffice because it usually has credits from the other school(s) posted.

Completion of the Program
Non-FSU students must submit the FSU International Programs transcript request form in order to receive one free transcript after the semester grades are posted.

Final transcripts will be available for Fall 2009 students as of December 16, 2009 and for Spring 2010 as of May 6, 2010.  Summer 2010 grades will post to students final transcripts August 12, 2010 regardless of the dates of your program.

Additional transcript requests and fees must be submitted through the Registrar’s website:  registrar.fsu.edu/services/transcripts/images/transcript_request.pdf
