Teaching Opportunities

The Florence, London, Valencia and Panama Study Centers operate on a year-round basis, offering fall, spring, and multiple summer sessions at each site. Programs are also offered in the other countries where faculty may apply to teach. However, some of the program sites listed are places where we have offered “specialized programs”. Therefore, those locations may not be available for you to propose your courses, unless you want to offer your own “Curriculum-Focused”.  In that respect, you may also propose to offer your specialized program in a brand new location that has not yet been offered. Program Leaders of specialized programs must have taught with International Programs before proposing to become a Program Leader.

The following list will advise you if you may apply to offer courses in each country:

BROAD CURRICULUM- Open to applicants from all disciplines CURRICULUM FOCUSED- Open to applicants from focused and related disciplines

Australia
Czech Republic
England
Italy
Republic of Panama
Spain

China

Ecuador

Program Features and Expectations of Faculty

• FTEs—The undergraduate programs are non-funded credit programs that do not generate FTEs (full-time equivalencies).
• Teaching Accommodations—We are committed to providing you with the necessary resources to deliver your classes in an environment conducive to learning. Every effort will be made to provide you with any equipment or items you require. Please realize, however, that overseas teaching will differ somewhat from your on campus experience. Under normal circumstances there will be no secretarial assistance available to you on these programs, and the faculty will share a common office. In addition, all faculty members are expected to assist the study center's director in other duties associated with the program.
• Course requirements—Each assigned faculty member must teach at least two courses contained within the current FSU General Bulletin, and is expected to oversee any directed individual studies (DIS) students majoring in his/her academic discipline.
• Promoting the program—International Programs continuously promotes and advertises all of the exciting opportunities to study abroad through a wide range of marketing and recruiting efforts. Nevertheless, faculty who are selected will be expected to generate interest in and to encourage/promote student participation in their courses in conjunction with the International Programs staff. Although class sizes are smaller than on home campuses, there is a minimum enrollment number needed for a course to be taught.

Please Note:
Teaching in a foreign environment can be as challenging as it is rewarding. This may require altering your traditional teaching methods. Resources and meeting places far beyond the classroom are available to you, and we encourage you to take full advantage of the location. Certain existing programs offer field trips and cultural activities that are preset by the study center and/or the International Programs staff. Please check with our office for more information regarding those activities when planning your own field trips and course activities. Our professional and friendly staff will be glad to help you coordinate your program and answer any questions that you may have.
